Line of Events
After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot named Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive in the harsh environment, Roz befriends the island’s animals and takes care of an orphaned baby goose. Lupita Nyong’o talks to writer and director Chris Sanders about the important roles and time they spent together making “The Wild Robot.” According to author Peter Brown, the inspiration for The Wild Robot came from a sketch he made of a robot in a tree. He then asked the question, “What would an intelligent robot do in the wild?” When the fox enters the cabin, a moose growls near the door, but the sound effect is a recording of a bear. Roz: [from the trailer] Sometimes you have to become more than you’re programmed to be in order to survive.

I loved this movie
Orchestral arrangement by Kris Bowers. Maren Morris performs courtesy of Columbia Records under a deal with Sony Music Entertainment. It has a wonderful message of tolerance and unity. The voice actors are adorable. The animation is very good, sometimes breathtaking.
But it’s good to dream
I liked the story, although I can understand that some people find it too cheesy or corny. In a world and country that seems hopelessly divided, it is very comforting to see a story where the characters meet, accept their differences, and form a community. Unfortunately, that’s exactly why it’s fiction. The fact that the title character, and the character who inspires all the changes, is the ultimate “other” only makes the point even more elegant. I suspect some people think the film is manipulative and unnecessarily tugs at the audience’s emotions.
